Market Watch
As it took over the prompt-month slot Friday, May gas futures staged an afternoon rally, jumping 14¢ to settle at $4.065 per million Btu. “Weather forecasts shifted lower in the 11-15 day range along with a wave of large thunderstorms that are projected to make their way across the Lower 48,” Gelber & Associates said. “The front-month contract appears to have found short-term technical support at the $3.85/MMBtu level.” Analysts expect weather to play an outsized role in determining where prices go from here. “Because [storage is] below the five-year average, any weather issues — either extreme heat or cold — could keep natural gas on an upward trajectory,” Price Futures Group analyst Phil Flynn said. “On top of that, weather forecasters are suggesting that we could see another active hurricane season.”
The 12-month strip rose 6.7¢ to $4.546; the 2026 strip inched 0.9¢ higher to $4.401 (Futures contracts).
