EU to Follow UK Lead in Targeting Covert Russian Oil Trade

The EU is preparing to target the clandestine trade in Russian oil in its latest package of Russia sanctions due for approval next week with a focus on the "shadow fleet" of tankers and obscure trading firms that now dominate the business. But the new measures are unlikely to have any tangible impact on Russian export levels, which have remained more or less stable since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
