About Jessica JESSICA SONDGEROTH is the Deputy Editor of Nuclear Intelligence Weekly, having previously served as a Reporter for the publication since 2017.Jessica began working for NIW in 2017 as a Market Reporter covering nuclear fuel markets but has since expanded her coverage into all aspects of nuclear energy, including decommissioning and waste management, local and federal policy and regulations, and non-proliferation issues especially as it pertains to the small modular reactor and fast reactor designs. From Washington, DC, she has covered some of the biggest developments in the US nuclear industry in recent memory, including the push for an interim solution to the nation's spent fuel problem, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission's gutting of its post-Fukushima safety rulemaking, and the delayed and overbudget AP1000 Vogtle newbuild project in Georgia, along with the fallout of its failed companion V.C. Summer project in South Carolina. Jessica has also closely monitored negotiations in the US over Russian nuclear fuel import limits in 2020 and ongoing tensions over Russia's nuclear trade globally. Her past reporting experience includes covering emissions, coal, and petroleum coke markets and news at the regional and global level for Argus Media, where she also helped develop a new methodology for petroleum coke market pricing. Previously she worked in Washington, DC, as a freelance reporter and as a web editor for a student financial aid nonprofit. Jessica started her career in journalism in 2008 as a web editor for a local news station in Austin, Texas.A native of El Paso, Texas, Jessica has bachelor's degrees from the University of Texas at Austin in English and Journalism.
