While 2023 was the year that consolidated the continued need for unabated natural gas, the future of low-carbon and greener molecules could be set in stone in 2024. The final text from COP28 pledged to accelerate global low-carbon hydrogen production while failing to mention green gases outright, with deals struck on the sidelines of the summit. For example, a partnership agreement was struck in early December between countries forming the International Hydrogen Trade Forum and the CEO-led Hydrogen Council to develop cross-border hydrogen deals between exporters and importers.
