Natural gas and LNG appear to have carved out a niche in the historic COP28 agreement reached on Dec. 14, despite the deal mentioning the need to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels for the first time. The deal included recognition that “transitional fuels” can play a role in the energy transition while ensuring energy security, widely understood to be referring to natural gas, as other low-carbon gases, such as hydrogen, were mentioned outright in the final text.
