  • The ability to produce oil from ultra-high pressure wells, known as 20k, has opened the door for the region's three top producers to progress several new projects in the US Gulf of Mexico.
  • The US offshore region provides a good chunk of high-margin oil production, with a relatively low carbon footprint, for majors BP, Chevron and Shell.
  • But the US Gulf's aggregate output is likely to peak soon, putting pressure on the industry to find and develop new resources in frontier deepwater plays.
