Giant Turkmen Gas Field Hits Capacity Milestone

Turkmenistan’s Galkynysh natural gas field, the second biggest in the world after the South Pars/North Dome Field shared by Iran and Qatar, has reached a production capacity of 200 Bcm/yr, according to Irina Luryeva, head of the laboratory overseeing the field’s development at Turkmenistan’s Scientific Research Institute of Natural Gas. By contrast, one of Russia’s biggest fields, Bovanenkovskoye, has a production capacity of 115 Bcm/yr.
