The EU could be starting to take seriously the promotion of domestic natural gas production as a way to expand energy sources and reduce the dependence on potential volatile suppliers in an uncertain political landscape. The EU produced some 32 billion cubic meters of gas domestically last year, covering just a fraction of its total 332 Bcm demand, according to data from the European Commission.
