US President Donald Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates next week is his first trip abroad since returning to the White House, echoing his first foreign visit as president eight years ago to Riyadh. Trump’s latest tour is expected to generate a wave of deals that could secure massive investments in the US. From the Gulf perspective, security is paramount, and Trump is set to arrive shortly after the latest round of US–Iran nuclear talks in Muscat. But the outcome of those talks remains highly uncertain, while Israel’s war in Gaza and clashes with Yemen’s Houthis continue to stoke regional tensions.
