US President Donald Trump’s moves to try to revive the country’s domestic coal industry are unlikely to make a dent in the primacy of natural gas in US power generation. Natural gas in the US will remain cheaper to burn, abundant and, crucially, less polluting than coal despite potential additional power needs from artificial intelligence, data centers and Washington’s push to breathe new life into a declining sector.
