Repercussions from the ongoing trade war are casting a long shadow over the operating climate for aviation in 2025. Distortions are apparent in latest International Air Transport Association (IATA) data on air cargo and passenger volumes for March, which moved in opposite directions. Air freight volumes saw strong gains as shippers front loaded deliveries to beat tariffs that are due to take effect on May 2. At the same time, a slowdown in US passenger volumes weighed on the global picture for air traffic.
