Save for later Print Download Share European lobby group Transport & Environment (T&E) is calling for Europe鈥檚 carbon market to be extended to include departing international flights when Brussels reviews its cornerstone emissions trading system (ETS) next year. 鈥淎viation emissions are spiraling out of control,鈥� said T&E Aviation Policy Manager Krisztina Hencz at the Apr. 28 release of the group's annual carbon stock take. 鈥淭he sector continues to dodge the true cost of its pollution, making a mockery of airlines鈥� pledges to build back greener after Covid. Next year鈥檚 review of EU carbon markets is a chance to rectify a loophole in the current legislation and ensure airlines pay for the true cost of their pollution,鈥� she argued.
