Can the UK Clear its Power Grid Connection Logjam?

The UK has in many respects been a torchbearer for the energy transition, with significant progress made in developing renewable energy assets. Indeed, 2024 marked an impressive milestone for the UK, with renewables generating over 50% of the country’s electricity for the first-time — reaching a record 50.8%, up from 46.4% in 2023. However, this progress is at risk of plateauing as the result of one seemingly intractable problem — grid capacity.
