A reboot of the global trading system is set to test the resilience of oil demand. Global refined product consumption is forecast to grow by 839,000 barrels per day in 2025, a 129,000 b/d downward revision from last month. Regardless of US President Donald Trump’s tariffs, the outlook was bound to be decent but not spectacular this year. However, acute trade frictions create disruptions, which in turn incur costs and trigger mixed demand responses.
