With many clean ammonia and hydrogen projects facing delays in coming to fruition around the world, potential markets Japan and South Korea — both resource-scarce and heavily dependent on energy imports — are hoping to carve out a competitive edge via careful planning. Both are making strategic strides to encourage demand for the new fuels, particularly in the power sector via coal co-firing, while also seeking out opportunities abroad to secure global leadership roles — albeit not without some bumps along through road.
