CATL this week unveiled its upgraded Shenxing battery, a cell it says can now offer 520 km (320 miles) of range from just five minutes of charging time — an important milestone in terms of consumer appeal and convenience. The upgraded batteries boast a range of 800 km on one charge with a peak charging speed of 2.5 km per second, the company told a gathering in Shanghai. The announcement further solidifies China’s dominance in battery innovation. Last month, BYD — China’s leading EV maker — unveiled its ultrafast charging technology, capable of delivering 400 km of range in five minutes.
