US utility Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is speeding up the timeline for building and commissioning the first US BWRX-300 at its Clinch River site, where it will "fast follow" the planned inaugural deployment of that GE-Hitachi-supplied light-water small modular reactor (SMR) in Canada. This accelerated schedule, targeting 2032 commissioning, emerged this week as TVA resubmitted an application for $800 million in federal grant funding under a utility-led consortium approach to domestic fleet-level deployment and announced plans to complete its submittal of a construction permit application to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) by June.
